“I was a stranger and you welcomed me” (Matt 25:35)

World Refugee Day celebration

On Sunday 19th June in collaboration with Pastoral Care (Archdiocese of Johannesburg), Jesuit Refugee Service and Justice and Peace, Bienvenu Shelter celebrated World Refugee day, inspired by the theme “Migrants and Refugees Challenge Us. The Response of the Gospel of Mercy”. The event took place at St. Patricks Catholic Church La Rochelle. The programme of events commenced with the mass presided by the Auxiliary Bishop Duncan Tsoke.

A cultural programme then proceeded which included representation of the diverse nations bringing together the diversity and colourfulness of all different cultural groups.

The stage lit up like a ray of sunshine when the children from Bienvenu Shelter performed in dancing and then concluded in the reciting of a poem “I am a refugee child”.
