On the 27 July 2027, Bienvenu Shelter was delighted to welcome Sr. Elizangela, a member of the Scalabrinian Sisters Leadership Team from Rome, on her first visit to South Africa. The occasion was one of great joy and celebration. Upon her arrival, Sr. Elizangela was greeted by the staff team with vibrant traditional African music and dance, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of South Africa and the shelters heartfelt welcome.
She was then invited into the baby room, where the children warmly welcomed her in their own special way. Together, they reverently prayed the Our Father, creating a touching moment of faith and unity. As a token of their appreciation, the children presented Sr. Elizangela with a small gift, which she received with gratitude and delight.
The visit continued to the crèche, where the children confidently recited rhymes about Safeguarding and children’s rights, demonstrating their growing awareness of the importance of being safe, respected, and valued. One of the most moving moments of the day was the presentation of the Scalabrinian play by the children. Through their performance, they beautifully portrayed the Scalabrinian spirit of welcoming, caring for, and serving those in need. Sr. Elizangela was deeply touched by the children’s confidence and understanding of the Congregation’s mission.
The visit included a tour of the Training Centre, where lunch was served. This was followed by a tour of the empowerment programmes, as well as an opportunity to meet and engage with the staff team.
The visit concluded on a joyful note, leaving everyone with a deep sense of gratitude. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day filled with meaningful encounters, heartfelt hospitality, and shared moments of faith.
