Warmth, colour and kindness: Jeppe Girls donated Handmade Blankets to Bienvenu Shelter

Last Thursday, May 14, 2026 was a truly special day at Bienvenu Shelter. We had the joy of welcoming a group of students from Jeppe High School for Girls, who visited the Shelter to donate more than 80 beautiful handmade blankets by the students for the children of the Baby Room, the Lovely Bears Crèche, and for the mothers and children living at the Shelter.

Each blanket was unique, colourful and full of life. More than simply blankets, they felt like gestures of care and kindness, carefully made by hands.

The visit was filled with joy from the very beginning. The children welcomed the students with songs, dancing and excitement, creating such a lively and heartfelt atmosphere throughout the morning. There was laughter everywhere as the children immediately wrapped themselves in the blankets, proudly showing them to one another and choosing their favourites. Some wore them like capes, others held them tightly around their shoulders, not wanting to let them go.

As winter slowly arrives in Johannesburg and temperatures continue to drop, this donation comes at a deeply important moment for many of the women and children we support. Warm blankets are a practical necessity during the cold months, but also a source of comfort and protection for women and children in the Shelter.

Moments like this remind us how powerful simple acts of solidarity can be. The generosity, creativity and thoughtfulness shown by the students of Jeppe High School for Girls brought genuine happiness to our community and made the children feel seen, valued and cared for.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the students, teachers and everyone involved in making this initiative possible. Thank you for sharing not only warmth, but also compassion, joy and humanity with the women and children of Bienvenu Shelter.
