STAFF WORKSHOP: “Life in the shadow of trauma”

On 11th September 2025, Bienvenu Shelter staff, volunteers, and a dear donor had the opportunity to be part of a workshop on working with trauma titled ‘Life in the Shadow of Trauma’.

The workshop was held at Mother Assunta Training Centre and was facilitated by a team from Embrace Village, an organization that works with individuals, families, and communities to create an environment where individuals can overcome past traumas, thrive, and contribute positively to society.

The workshop focused on how trauma experienced during childhood affects children’s development and how this trauma, if not addressed, impacts the child when they grow up.

In the workshop, the Team learned about different forms of trauma, causes of trauma, and how to identify behavior that can be due to trauma. Additionally, they also learned different techniques that can be used when working with children and adults who have been exposed to traumatic events.

A highlight of the workshop was the Teams’ contributions to the conversation highlighting how trauma amongst migrant women and their children can sometimes be hard to address as it is somewhat very complex.
